Insurance Claims Process
Step 1: Property Inspection
The first part of the Claims process is an inspection of your property. We’ll view the damaged areas to determine whether or not a claim should be filed.
As a General Contractor, we’re educated to know industry standards. There are particular guidelines set to follow that will determine whether it’s a replacement or repair that is needed.
Step 2: Subject to Agreement
After the inspection, we’ll explain what we found. Before we speak with your insurance adjuster, you’ll need to sign a “Subject to Agreement” form. This form simply says that:
You’re not obligated to pay anything unless everything is approved by the insurance company and they’re willing to pay for the repairs.
The only cost to you is your deductible.
Prairieland Construction is required to have this approval in writing before discussing the claim with an adjuster
Step 3: Filing the Claim
As the homeowner, you’re the only one that’s able to file a claim. We cannot file a claim for you. You will need to contact your insurance agent and notify them of the damage to your home.
While filing, you can inform your insurance agent that you’re working with PrairieLand Construction & that you’d like their adjuster to speak with us. Once you acquire a claim number, we can help from there.
Step 4: Scope of Work
Once your claim is filed, we’ll return to your home to create a Scope of Work (SOW). This is a simple document that clearly lists all the work to be done, what’s included, and what’s not. It ensures everyone — you, us, and your insurance adjuster — is on the same page.
Step 5: Meeting the Adjuster
We’ll meet with your insurance adjuster at your home to review the damages and the Scope of Work. The adjuster will create their own breakdown of the work. Once both the adjuster and PrairieLand agree on the scope, we’ll prepare a detailed, line-by-line list with pricing for your project. We will then go over this itemized estimate with you prior to construction beginning.
Step 6: Funding the Project
Our goal is to make the entire process as simple and stress-free as possible. We’ll guide you every step of the way and assist with any requirements along the way.
Next, we’ll guide you through these steps:
Pick Materials/Colors – You will select the finishes, colors, and materials for your project.
Deductible Payment – You’ll write a check for your insurance deductible. This is typically your only out-of-pocket cost.
Material Ordering – We will order and confirm that all materials are correct, prior to construction beginning
First Insurance Payment – Once your insurance sends the first payment (based on the ACV — Actual Cash Value), you provide us the check to start the project.
Project Completion – We complete the work and do a final walkthrough with you to ensure satisfaction.
Final Insurance Payment – We send the final invoice to your insurance company for the remaining balance. The funds are sent to you, and you provide the final check to us.
